Looking After Your New Timber Floor

dust floor mops are the best way to clear dustAt Wide Bay Floorsanding we take the ultimate of care with your timber floor, so it makes it easy for you to look after and enjoy it for many years without too much work. Please feel free to download the following guides to help you maintain your newly coated floor.

Following are some tips to help you maintain the quality of timber floors:

  • Wait, at least, for 24 hours after having water based coatings applied, 48+ hours for solvent based coatings, to use the room with light traffic. If possible, walk in bare feet leaving your shoes off immediately before walking on the floor to avoid scratching. Coatings are generally fully cured between 3-7 days. The longer the better is the best rule, particularly before placing heavy furniture on the floor.
  • Place felt pads underneath all furniture contact points to help prevent damage to the floor’s surface.
  • Sand and Dirt is a timber floor’s worst enemy. Place a short pile mat inside the entry to a room and a deep pile mat at the entrance to your property. Ensure these mats are shaken weekly.
  • Do not vacuum or use bristle brooms, use an electrostatic dust mop, such as a ‘Oates bulldozer’. Mop occasionally with cold or lukewarm water using Squeaky Clean or a small amount of white vinegar. Refer to Squeaky Clean label for further details.
  • Wipe up spills as soon as possible with soft cloths or paper towels.
